Glass-Ceramic materials were developed because neither glass nor ceramics were capable of providing certain properties sought by the engineering and scientific community. The most sought after properties are machinability and near zero thermal expansion, but glass-ceramic materials with other unusual properties are available. These materials are usually made by starting with glass, adding dopants and thermal cycling to induce partial phase transformations to produce small particles of ceramic or crystalline materials dispersed in a glass matrix.
CiDRA® Precision Services, LLC has years of experience manufacturing products from glass-ceramic materials. We leverage our in-depth dicing, drilling, milling, grinding, and polishing capability to manufacture the highest quality products. For optical grade glass-ceramic applications, CiDRA® Precision Services, LLC has the ability to grind, clean, polish and apply coatings to the highest optical standards.
