About Zirconia Toughened Alumina Ceramics

Zirconia Toughened Alumina (Zr Al2O2), also known as ZTA, is a ceramic matrix composite that uses Zirconia to increase the fracture toughness and strength of Alumina, while still maintaining good hardness and thermal characteristics. It is formed by uniformly dispersing 10% to 20% of Zirconia particles throughout the Alumina bulk material. Though more expensive than Alumina, the cost is justified for some applications.
