Three Dimensional Blanks for Advanced Optical Prisms

Application:  All complex, large optical elements start out life as large blocks of material, which is machined to complex geometries ready for polishing and coating.  This type of work requires many hours of machining time in high speed CNC milling machines with a variety of diamond tooling.   

Features:  These blanks are both made from fused quartz, and both are machined to +/-50um tolerances.  Heat management, fixture design, tool selection and machine processes are all key capabilities required to machine complex and high value components such as these to tight tolerance and without defects.
